The musician Auguste De Boeck, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Merchtem on the 9th May 1865, the same year of the composers Boeck, Drake, Dukas, Dupin, Gilson, Jaques-Dalcroze, Loomis, Luders, Ludwig, Luporini, Magnard, Miles, Morera, Nielsen, Olenin, Orefice, Reinhardt, Sibelius, Spinelli, Szopski, Tofft. Died in Merchtem on the 9th October 1937
