The Battisti Era
The Battisti-Mogol duo represents for popular music what the Da Ponte-Mozart duo represents for opera: a perfect symbiosis between word and sound. Between 1966 and 1980, Mogol wrote lyrics that entered the Italian cultural DNA, such as Emozioni, Il mio canto libero, and Una donna per amico. His ability to insert everyday terms into poetic contexts broke the barriers between "high culture" and "popular music," elevating the song to a form of literary art.
The philosophy of the text
For Mogol, the text must never overpower the music but rather "inhabit" it. His technique is based on an obsessive listening to the melody to extract its latent meaning. This method allowed for the creation of songs where the meter of the verse blends perfectly with the musical accentuation, ensuring immediate and profound communicative effectiveness. In recent decades, he has dedicated himself to training young talents, defending the value of popular culture as a pillar of national identity.
