Life
Trained in the heart of Neoclassicism, his long career led him to reach full artistic maturity during the Romantic period, representing a connecting figure between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Francesco Ceracchini, composer and organist, was born in Sinalunga in 1768. His musical life was deeply linked to the city of Siena, where he held positions of great prestige. From 1789 he was the organist and from 1796 he became the chapel master of the cathedral. His contemporaries described him as an extremely virtuous musician, skilled not only on the organ but also on the violin and cello. He was also an esteemed music teacher, dedicating himself to the teaching of organ and counterpoint. In 1815, he founded the Municipal Band of Siena, the city's first civic band. Francesco Ceracchini died in Siena on July 24, 1824.

Works
Francesco Ceracchini's musical output consists mainly of sacred music, which survives in numerous autographs and manuscripts preserved in various institutions, including the Archive of the Opera del Duomo di Siena and the Intronati Library of Siena. Although he is known for his sacred works, he also wrote two theatrical operas: Metastasio's Antigono, performed at the Pergola in Florence in 1794, and Elisa ed Alceo for Siena in 1797. Furthermore, he composed secular and celebratory cantatas for important figures such as Leopold II and the Queen of Etruria. A modern edition of his organ works was edited by Cesare Mancini and Marco Rossi, testifying to his musical value. His music has also been the subject of commercial recordings.
