Life
Trained at the dawn of the new century, his long and prestigious career, from training to full maturity, unfolded entirely within the Baroque period.
Born in Soave around 1580, Tomaso Cecchino trained in the Venetian region. Around 1603 he moved to Dalmatia, becoming chapel master in Split, where he introduced the concertato style. Subsequently, he assumed the same position in Šibenik, a city where he worked for a long time and where he left a strong influence on the local musical school.
His compositions, printed in Venice, spread the new polychoral and concertato language, adapted to the liturgical needs of Venetian Dalmatia. He was among the most active promoters of modern music in the Adriatic area. He died in Šibenik in 1644.
