Life

Trained in the full tradition of the Baroque, his long career led him to reach artistic maturity in an era of profound stylistic transition, which saw the emergence of the new rationalist ideals of Arcadia.

Giovanni Maria Capelli was born in Parma in 1649. He dedicated his entire life to music, holding prestigious positions in his hometown. He was organist and chapel master of the Cathedral, where he remained active for nearly fifty years.

His production includes masses, motets, and madrigals, works that reflect the liturgical tradition and musical taste of the time. He was a point of reference for musical life in Parma until his death in 1726.
