Antonio Brunelli was born in Santa Croce sull’Arno in 1577. He studied music probably in Florence and soon began his career as a composer and maestro di cappella. His activity is documented especially in Prato and Pisa, where he directed prominent musical chapels.
He distinguished himself in the composition of sacred music, with masses and motets that reflect the spiritual sensitivity of the time, but he also wrote madrigals and other secular pieces, demonstrating versatility and inventive richness.
He died in Pisa in 1630, leaving a catalog of works that testifies to the creative fervor of musical Tuscany in the early 17th century.
