His entire creative arc, from training to full maturity, consistently took place within the great stream of Italian Romanticism, reaching into the thresholds of post-unification Realism.
Pasquale Bona was born in Cerignola in 1808 and showed an inclination for music from his youth. He began his studies in Palermo and later perfected his skills in Naples under the guidance of Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti, who recognized his abilities.
His debut as a theatrical author took place with Il Tutore e la Pupilla in 1832, followed by works such as I Luna e i Perollo in 1835 and Il Buontempone di Porta Ticinese in 1841. Simultaneously, he developed an intense pedagogical activity, becoming a composition teacher at the Milan Conservatory, where he had among his students musicians destined for great fame such as Amilcare Ponchielli, Arrigo Boito, and Franco Faccio.
In addition to theatrical works, Bona wrote important educational texts, including the Metodo di canto (Singing Method) and the Solfeggi parlati (Spoken Solfeggios), which influenced the training of generations of students. He died in Milan in 1875, leaving a lasting mark as a pedagogue and musician.

Among Bona's most significant works is Il Tutore e la Pupilla, performed in 1832, which highlighted his melodic ability and skill in sketching lively characters. This was followed in 1835 by I Luna e i Perollo, a work of larger scope that was favorably received by the public.
In 1841 he presented Il Buontempone di Porta Ticinese, a work that showed a connection with the popular Milanese environment. Alongside these theatrical compositions, his theoretical writings were no less important, notably the Metodo di canto, intended for Conservatory students, and the Solfeggi parlati, which remained in use for a long time.
