Life
Trained at the height of Verdian Romanticism, his mature career took place in the complex climate of the Fin de siècle, an era in which the poetics of Realism, Verismo, and the new sensitivity of Decadentism coexisted.
Giovanni Bolzoni was born in Parma in 1841 and undertook musical studies that led him to develop a remarkable artistic sensitivity. Endowed with an organizational spirit and a passion for music, he established himself as both a conductor and a composer.
After his debut as a violinist and conductor, he dedicated himself to the composition of theatrical works, orchestral pieces, and above all, chamber music. His writing, clear and flowing, won over the public and helped spread the Italian instrumental tradition.
Moving to Turin, he became director of the Musical Lyceum, playing a leading role in the training of new generations of musicians. His figure is remembered as that of an authoritative and passionate master, capable of uniting rigor and human warmth.
