During his period in Dresden, it is said that Antonio was so appreciated that he was invited to perform privately before visiting foreign dignitaries, who remained fascinated by the warmth of his sound.Works
Antonio Besozzi's compositions include sonatas, trios, and concertos, many of which are dedicated to the oboe, the instrument that made him famous. His works circulated in manuscript and printed form, finding admirers even outside of Italy.
In particular, the sonatas for oboe and basso continuo were appreciated for the agility of the lines and the naturalness of the melodic phrases, qualities that made them popular in academies and musical salons. His concertos were also performed in public, giving the author the opportunity to exhibit his dotes as a virtuoso.
Antonio's chamber music contributed to consolidating the reputation of the Besozzis as one of the most important families in the spread of the Italian style in Europe. His works remain a testimony to the musical vitality that animated the courts of Dresden and Turin in the eighteenth century.
