Born in Caprarola in 1622, Ercole Bernabei grew up in an environment deeply linked to the religious and cultural life of Lazio. He studied music in Rome and soon distinguished himself as a talented organist, attracting the attention of important ecclesiastical and artistic figures.

Ercole Bernabei's production includes masses, motets, madrigals, and theatrical works. His sacred compositions were performed regularly in Rome, especially during major religious holidays.
Among his best-known works are the polychoral masses and motets, in which he was able to combine the polyphonic tradition with innovative harmonic solutions. Some madrigals were collected and published, garnering interest among Roman and foreign musicians.
In Munich, he contributed new masses and liturgical hymns, enriching the repertoire of the ducal chapel. He also composed music for the theater, which is less documented today but nevertheless important for understanding his versatility.
