Life
Fully trained in the style of the mature Baroque, his career unfolded in an era of transition, reaching maturity in the Late Baroque phase that saw the establishment of the new rationalist ideals of Arcadia.
Born around 1650 in Padua, Giovanni Battista Bassani trained as a violinist and quickly established himself as one of the most esteemed musicians of his time. His career led him to occupy prestigious positions as maestro di cappella, including the one at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo.

According to tradition, Bassani was the teacher of Arcangelo Corelli, who remembered him with esteem as a guide and inspiration.Works
He composed numerous oratorios, including Giona and La tromba della divina misericordia, performed with great success. His sacred production includes masses and motets intended for the most prestigious chapels.
In the instrumental field, he left collections of sonatas and concertos that contributed to the development of the Venetian violin school.

Layered bones
With Anatome ossium, Domenico Gagliardi was the first to describe the lamellar structure of bones. The work enjoyed European success and was reprinted in Leiden in 1723.
