The musician Xaver (Franz) Scharwenka, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Szamotuly on the 6th Jenuary 1850, the same year of the composers Brandts Buys, Bretón y Hernández, Fanciulli, Faning, Fibich, Georges, Heuberger, Jordan, Keil, Komzák, Lange-Müller, Luigini, Meyer-Olbersleben, Miguez, Olsen, Scontrino, Serrano y Ruiz, Simon, Taneyev, Thomas, Thomé, Toulmouche, Urspruch. He died in Berlino on the 8th December 1924
