The musician Väinö (Eerikki) Raitio, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Sortavala on the 15th April 1891, the same year of the composers Bliss, Casavola, Dzegelyonok, Gallon, Golovanov, Jacobi, Jirák, Johnson, Kardos, Kasianov, Krejcí, Kunz, Kálik, Migot, Moreno Torroba, Palma, Pannain, Pinto, Porter, Prokofiev, Ravasenga, Spelman, Sternberg. He died in Helsinki on the 10th September 1945
