The composer Martin-Joseph Mengal, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Ghent on the 27th Jenuary 1784, the same year of the composers Berton, Blondeau, Castil-Blaze, Corri, Fétis, Henning, Morlacchi, Onslow, Ries, Spohr. Died in Ghent on the 4th July 1851
