Erkki Gustav (Gustaf) (Erik) Melartin, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Käkisälmi on the 7th February 1875, the same year of the composers Agostini, Alfano, Coleridge-Taylor, Courvoisier, Darzins, Eisler, Fano, Février, Glier, Horák, Huszka, Ketèlbey, Kreisler, Labey, Mariotte, Montemezzi, Nouguès, Ollone, Pacchierotti, Panizza, Ravel, Riccitelli, Rootham, Rubens, Rôze, Scheinpflug, Shaw, Szulc, Tovey, Valverde Sanjuán. He died in Pukinmäki on the 14th February 1937
