The composer Max Maretzek (Marecek), who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Brno on the 28th June 1821, the same year of the composers Afanas'yev, Bottesini, Bovy-Lysberg, Byström, Conradi, Dominiceti, Doppler, Muzio, Paniagua y Vasques. He died in Staten Island on the 14th May 1897
