Flor van (Florimond) Duyse was born in Ghent on the 4th August 1843, the same year of the composers Bechgaard, Bella, Bertha, Erkel, Gialdini, Gregh, Grieg, Hamerik, Holst, Lefebvre, Lumbye, Marqués y García, Napoleão dos Santos, Neuendorff, Pessard, Stephanescu.
