The musician Jules Denefve, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Chimay in 1814, the same year of the composers Alary, Döhler, Gabrielli, Gille, Hentschel, Kolberg, Lillo, Limnander de Nieuwenhove, Mosonyi, Röckel, Salaman, Schäffer. He died in Mons on the 19th August 1877
