The composer William (Wilhelm) Berwald, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Schwerin on the 26th December 1864, the same year of the composers Albert, Azkué, Bachelet, Beer-Walbrunn, Borgström, Browne, Castro Herrera, Goepp, Grechaninov, Körling, Lauber, Leoni, Nepomuceno, Othegraven, Procházka, Ropartz, Rottenberg, Strauss. He died in Loma Linda (California) on the 8th May 1948
