‘Jupiter’ Symphony

This hugely important symphonic manuscript (traditionally attributed to W.A. Mozart for over 200 years) exists at Modena in a unique version written BEFORE 1784 – i.e. it was made more than 4 years BEFORE Mozart entered it as his own composition in his thematic catalogue in Vienna.

The 'Max Friedrich' archive of which the above ‘Jupiter’ symphony is only a part are particularly rich and precious to music lovers but is still little appreciated, have often been overlooked and is hugely underestimated for its content and significance. These versions are unique.

To stimulate detailed study of these works and to encourage music lovers to appreciate this remarkable material Luca Bianchini and Ann Trombetta are committed to offer you free of charge on this site Audio files from this precious music archive together with musical examples and related articles. This will hopefully achieve greater understanding of these works and bring allow rediscovery and vindication of the musical life and career of the little known Chapel Master of Bonn. Andrea Luchesi, music teacher of Ludwig van Beethoven.  

• We will publish monthly these Symphonies from the ‘Max Friedrich’ archive at Bonn that Professor George Taboga now attributes to Andrea Luchesi.
• The audio versions made by us all come from manuscripts of instrumental parts from this same 'Max Friedrich' archive formerly of the Chapel of Bonn and now held at Modena.

To stimulate definitive conclusions on these important issues of attribution these works from the 'Max Friedrich' archive will be published by ItalianOPERA online using a system of double cataloguing in which "T" ("Taboga-Luchesi") reference numbers are used but also using the traditional "K" numbers (for Mozart) and those of "Hob" (for Haydn).

Numerous other works in this archive are also attributed to Luchesi – for example, you will be able to hear world premiere recordings here of virtually unknown pieces such as the ballet/pantomime ‘Arlequin deserteur’ :
