TESTO DEL LIED

"Fresh and strong the breeze is blowing"
di George Colman (1733-1794)

Fresh and strong the breeze is blowing,
And yon ship at anchor rides,
Sullen waves incessant flowing,
Rudely dash against her sides.
So my heart its course impeded
Beats in my perturbed breast,
Doubts, like waves by waves succeeded
Rise and still deny it rest.
When apart from those that love us,
WHy should doubts disturb the breast,
Like the cloudless sky above us,
So the soul should calmly rest,
Constancy unlike the ocean,
Should be peaceful and secure,
Never moved by sad emotion
But in hope should still endure.
