The composer John Farmer, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Nottingham on the 16th August 1836, the same year of the composers Balakiriev, David, Delibes, Gomes, Götze, Hartmann, Hopkins, Langert, Malling, Mesquita, Pearce. He died in Oxford on the 17th July 1901
