Catharinus Elling was born in Christiania on the 13rd September 1858, the same year of the composers Barkworth, Berson, Chapuis, De Lara, Erb, Fauchey, Ferroni, Hubay, Huë, Kazachenko, Klein, Krug, Lambert, Landini, Löhse, Major, Maunder, Mugnone, Müller-Reuter, Nicolau, Ochs, Puccini, Shelley, Smyth, Tirindelli, Trnecek. He died in Oslo on the 8th Jenuary 1942
