The composer Avery (Alan) Claflin, author of instrumental and vocal music, was born in Keene on the 21 June 1898, the same year of the composers Abramsky, Arundell, Bacarisse, Bacon, Cheslock, Delannoy, Demuth, Eisler, Gershwin, Hamerik, Harsányi, Hába, James, Knipper, Krohn, Lazarus, Massarani, Mihalovici, Mulder, Plaza-Alfonzo, Rankl, Rubinstein, Ullmann. He died in Greenwich (Conn.) on the 9th Jenuary 1979
