Moritz (Matvey) Bernard, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Jelgava in 1794, the same year of the composers Benoist, Hüttenbrenner, Kearns, Panny, Rook, Schubert. He died in San Pietroburgo on the 9th May 1871
